'Be the Spark' is SpartanTHON's 2017-2018 Social Media Campaign. All of our goals, events, and community engagement will be centered around the idea of sparking change in our community.
The campaign holds a special place in the hearts of Dance Marathons across the country. Dance Marathon was started in 1991 by the friends of Ryan White, who passed away the summer before his freshman year at Indiana University following complications from HIV/AIDS which he contracted from a bad blood transfusion. During the first Dance Marathon at Indiana University, a fire started in the back of the field house and almost burned down the building. Although that flame was safely extinguished, the Dance Marathon movement spread like wildfire across the country. Today, there are more than 400 Dance Marathon programs across the U.S., and very fittingly, our emblem is the flame.
Behind every flame, there is a spark. This is where we ask you to get involved. Be the spark in your community, on your campus, and make a difference. Together, the sparks we each create will grow into a strong flame and make an impact in the fight to end pediatric illness.
